The Church: The Body of Christ, the People of God, and the Witness of the Gospel

Abstract

This chapter presents the doctrine of the Church as the body of Christ, the people of God, the household of faith, the temple of the Holy Spirit, the flock of God, the priestly people of the new covenant, and the witness of the gospel until Christ returns. Under the authority of Scripture alone, it argues that the Church is not a building, religious market, social club, political instrument, celebrity platform, humanitarian substitute for the gospel, or mystical community detached from doctrine. The Church is created by Christ, purchased by His blood, united to Him by the Spirit, governed by His Word, and sent to proclaim repentance and forgiveness of sins among all nations. The chapter affirms both the universal Church and the local church, showing that believers are saved by grace through faith in Christ alone, yet are called into embodied fellowship, teaching, worship, prayer, baptism, the Lord's Supper, discipline, mutual care, service, mission, and holiness. It explains Christ's headship, biblical leadership, the priesthood of believers, spiritual gifts, ministry callings, church discipline, suffering, global mission, and readiness for the return of the Bridegroom. It addresses common misconceptions about church attendance, doctrine, unity, authority, discipline, ordinances, digital ministry, and mission. It also evaluates New Age spirituality, interfaith syncretism, prosperity manipulation, celebrity ministry, entertainment worship, authoritarian leadership, commercialized anointing, therapeutic preaching, political idolatry, digital church consumerism, and deconstructed Christianity. The goal is not denominational rivalry but biblical faithfulness, so that churches, Bible Colleges, families, pastors, and believers may worship the triune God, guard the gospel, build up the saints, resist deception, serve one another, and bear faithful witness until the Lord comes.
