Abstract

This chapter presents the doctrine of salvation as the gracious work of the triune God by which guilty, spiritually dead, and helpless sinners are rescued from sin, wrath, condemnation, Satan's dominion, death, and final judgment through Jesus Christ. Salvation is not human self-improvement, religious performance, moral sincerity, ritual participation, psychological healing, political liberation, technological enhancement, mystical awakening, or interfaith spirituality. It is God's undeserved gift, planned by the Father, accomplished by the Son, and applied by the Holy Spirit. The chapter traces salvation through the whole counsel of Scripture, beginning with creation and the fall, moving through promise, covenant, sacrifice, prophetic hope, the cross and resurrection of Christ, the mission of the Church, and final glorification. It explains grace, faith, repentance, regeneration, justification, adoption, union with Christ, sanctification, good works, assurance, perseverance, and eternal life. It affirms that Christ alone is Savior, Mediator, Redeemer, Substitute, risen Lord, and coming Judge. Good works are presented as the fruit and evidence of saving faith, never the meritorious basis of justification. The chapter also addresses common misconceptions, including salvation by sincerity, works, sacraments, church membership, prosperity, ritual deliverance, or moral effort. It evaluates legalism, antinomianism, universalism, pluralism, hyper-grace, prosperity teaching, sacramental automaticism, and contemporary New Age, occult, secular, and technological distortions of salvation. Written under Sola Scriptura, it seeks theological accuracy, pastoral clarity, spiritual discernment, and readiness for Christ's return. It concludes with reflection questions, a twenty-question assessment, an answer key, and references for continued study.
