Global ESG scorecards and the data-extraction logics of surveillance capitalism now dictate what counts as “responsible” enterprise, yet they frequently collide with the biblical and communal ethics that animate many African firms. Drawing on neo-institutional theory and post-colonial critique, this study combines a systematic literature–policy review, a survey of 402 sub-Saharan SMEs, and triangulated case evidence from Equity Group Holdings (Kenya) and Centenary Bank (Uganda) to illuminate that collision. Results show that ESG compliance already consumes ≈ 6 % of Christian SMEs’ annual turnover while low privacy-governance maturity multiplies data-abuse risk, reaffirming coercive isomorphism in the African marketplace . Yet the two focal banks demonstrate that faith-anchored counter-moves can pay: Equity’s Data-Sanctity Charter sacrificed KES 1.6 bn in ancillary revenue but lifted net-promoter score 14 % and low-income outreach 22 % , whereas Centenary’s decision to downgrade geolocation granularity delayed an AI product six months yet preserved an NPL ratio of 3.1 % against a 4.8 % sector norm and secured ISO 27701 certification . To explain such outcomes, we weld Augustine’s ordo amoris, Ubuntu’s “sympathetic impartiality,” Heidegger’s Gestell and stakeholder theory into an Integrative Faith-Centred Business-Ethics Model that re-orders profit beneath love of God and neighbour . Building on that model, we advance the “Kingdom-ESG Metrics Wheel,” a four-pillar scorecard (Integrity, Community Well-being, Stewardship, Spiritual Capital) that nests within conventional E-S-G categories to offer investors a theologically coherent gauge of impact . Collectively, these contributions position African Christian enterprises not as outliers but as innovators capable of reframing global ethical discourse. The article closes by mapping avenues for empirical testing of Kingdom-ESG scorecards and by urging regulators to embed conscience exemptions that honour Africa’s moral sovereignty. Our findings thus convert ethical resistance into strategic advantage and outline a research agenda for a more plural, faith-aware future of corporate responsibility.
